Moana
Late last year, riding high on the success of female-centric flick “Frozen,” Disney announced that another young girl would be at the heart of its next animated feature, “Moana.” Now, the Mouse House has revealed a first look at concept art for the upcoming film, and announced a new, closer release date.

The photo (click here for a larger version), released on Walt Disney Animation Studios’s Facebook page, depicts the young titular heroine setting sail on a makeshift boat, her long locks flying free in the breeze. She seems to be headed toward a large, mountainous island, with someone else by her side.

According to a plot synopsis that surfaced last year, Moana is “a sea-voyaging enthusiast, and the only daughter of a chief in a long line of navigators. When her family needs her help, she sets off on an epic journey. The film will also include demigods and spirits taken from real mythology.” Disney’s Facebook announcement also stated that the movie would be a “comedy-adventure.”

Reliable Disney hitmakers Ron Clements and John Musker (the duo behind classics “The Little Mermaid” and “Aladdin,” and recent outing “The Princess and the Frog“) are directing the flick, which will be CG-animated. It’s also set to feature some songs.

Originally slated to hit theaters sometime in 2018, “Moana” has now been moved up to a late 2016 release. We can’t wait.
