There were some raised eyebrows when Nia Vardalos made the surprising announcement back in May that she was working on a sequel to her 2002 autobiographical indie hit “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.” But while the skeptics were busy wondering why the follow-up was happening, Vardalos and co. were busy shoring up the film’s creative team, which now includes a director.

Kirk Jones, who helmed “Nanny McPhee,” will take the director’s chair for “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2,” which now has a distribution deal with Universal. As with the first film, Rita Wilson will produce the sequel, alongside husband Tom Hanks and his Playtone company.

The plot for “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” revolves around the revelation of a big family secret, and also includes another wedding. Original co-star John Corbett is set to reprise his role alongside Vardalos.

No word yet on a release date. Stay tuned.
